Our Story & Craftsmanship

The Art Behind Indian Jewellery

At The P.S Collection, every piece is imported from India, a country where jewellery is woven into celebration, ceremony and everyday life. Here are a few of the traditional styles you'll find in our collection, and the stories behind them.

Kundan

Kundan is one of India's oldest jewellery-making traditions, closely associated with the royal courts of Rajasthan and the Mughal era. Stones or glass are set into the metal using thin layers of foil, giving each piece its rich, luminous look. Today, kundan-style jewellery is a favourite for weddings and festive occasions, often paired with pearls and coloured beads.

Meenakari

Meenakari is the art of decorating metal with coloured enamel. Patterns such as flowers, peacocks and paisleys are filled in with vivid colours, then fired to set the enamel. The craft is especially associated with Jaipur, and meenakari work often appears on the back of kundan pieces, or as a colourful feature all on its own.

Jhumkas

The jhumka, a bell-shaped earring often finished with tiny pearls or beads, has been worn across India for centuries and appears in classical sculpture and art. From small everyday jhumkas to grand chandbali-inspired designs, they remain one of the most loved Indian earring styles.

Oxidised jewellery

Oxidised jewellery has a darkened, antique-looking finish that highlights intricate engraving and tribal-inspired motifs. It pairs beautifully with cotton sarees, kurtas and even denim, which makes it a go-to for effortless, everyday Indian style.

Temple jewellery

Originating in South India, temple jewellery traditionally features motifs of deities, lotuses and peacocks, inspired by the ornaments used to adorn temple sculptures. It is a classic choice for classical dancers and brides.

Our part in the story

We curate pieces inspired by these traditions and bring them from India to customers in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and India. Our pieces are fashion jewellery, designed to let you enjoy these beautiful styles for every occasion.

Every piece has a name

We name each design in Hindi or Sanskrit after what it means to us: Komal means soft, Jyoti means light, and Kamal is the lotus, a symbol of new beginnings.
